t’s been a minute. Actually I think the last time I posted was just because I felt like I had to, I didn’t really have anything then I wanted to share, so ignoring that I don’t think I’ve ever gone this long writing a post. At least since I made this silly little website.

I started my IT job with my school. I like my team a lot. I was a little bit thrown off by the bipolar professionalism. I kind of always thought it was a joke that IT teams we’re a little lax on the workplace professionalism behind the scenes. This misconception has been rectified. It’s honestly impressive how much the team can communicate through silly (objectively inappropriate) behavior. Whatever, I’m not upset by it. I’m the worst when it comes to keeping it profesh, back at my optical job I had to bite my tongue every minute to keep from saying something stupid.

I’ve also been offered an internship with a local production studio. I’m super stoked and need to pick through and analyze my schedule to figure out when would be best for me to work there. It’s for software engineering, which I’m still not clear or not if it’s different from software development.

My family came to visit me over the weekend. James and I bar-hopped our first night (I stayed alcohol free! proud of myself). We went out to ‘Sister Bar’ downtown and to ‘Differential Brewing’ over in the south Uni district. We had an absolute blast. Caught up from years of not seeing each other.

The next few days were a blur. I took Mom and Grandma out in the MG with the top off, haven’t taken the top off of that thing in almost a year. It was nice to drive around without it. Ended up seeing a bunch of other classics out on the road and was reminded how friendly the classic car community is in Albuquerque. At some point a 1924 Model-T with a gorgeous army green paint job pulled up next to us for a little chit chat at a stop light. Mom just about cried when she saw how welcoming and accepting the folks here are. It’s not often you can (as a trans woman) be approached by 60+ year old men for friendly conversation about cars. Not since I moved here anyway.

The weekend was so “go go go go go” that I ended up breaking my no-caffeine rule. First cup of real bona-fide coffee with actual caffeine in around 2 months (I think, time is weird, go back and check my older posts if you’re feeling the urge to check me on that one). We went to the Michael Thomas roastery. Ohh my god (she said, semiorgasmically), It’s been so long since I’ve had a freshly roasted cup of coffee. Obviously I got a pour-over.

The following section is directed at an individual, it has been left exceptionally vague intentionally. Many of you (but likely none who read this based on where my subscribers come from) could benefit from reading it, so it’s public instead of in a private message. This is not meant to hurt, or offend, its honestly the closest I can do to an intervention from across the US.

I’ve spent a very long time building my own news aggregation pipeline so I don’t need to take it straight from the horses mouth. I use FreshRSS, which allows me to subscribe to RSS feeds but also to social profiles, peertube/youtube profiles, et cetera. Honestly half the things I subscribe to aren’t even officially supported, I wonder if the team over at freshrss knows how killer their product is. They should probably release a glass or material frontend and charge access for the folks who don’t wanna host themselves… Where was I?

Right. News. So I’ve got this thing set up because I’m what they call “hyper-reactive”. I get really upset about the news. I get super upset about the regime. I’ve been known to imagine certain faces on my pillows and beat them until even in my own mind they’re unrecognizable to solve the anger I feel at our political situation. Is this healthy? I didn’t think so but my therapist and my partner say it’s actually a really healthy way to deal with blind rage. I’m learning not to feel the blind rage. This is taking longer, of course, than simply redirecting it.

So why do I bring this up? Without pointing fingers at anyone in particular, someone kept bringing up T***p this weekend. Now, I have never minded talking politics, but I generally prefer when people get my consent first. Joelle has even asked me before “Do you mind if we talk politics for a little bit?” and I’ve been generally receptive. I’ve worked very hard to build myself a safe-space free of T***p speak, free of talk about P*** H******. I’ve done this because my neck has been on their fake chopping block for years now. I’ve done this because as a certifiable queer, it’s easier for me to pretend the ineffectual fascist regime doesn’t exist. If they’re gonna get me, they’re gonna get me. Honestly I’d rather it be a surprise than sit here fearing and seething for years.

I simply don’t appreciate that even after being told (in not so many words) that it was genuinely upsetting me, she kept doing it.

If you’re reading this, please delete your facebook (and probably your instagram). You’re being radicalized. You don’t even know what you’re saying. These problems are nuanced and you’re not getting anywhere by saying “orange man bad” every chance you get. Like, we all get it, orange man is bad. I’m not denying this, but I don’t need a reminder of it every 10 minutes and lucky for you I’m autistic enough to say something without caring if it offends you, so please, for the sake of yourself and everyone around you: delete your socials, detox from news, go smell some flowers or walk in the park, get a dog, rent a sports-car and buy some track time, get a hobby. You’re missing the human experience. It’s time to get off of Mr Zuck’s wild ride

Now I need to finish my homework, I’m 4 days behind.

I love you all, especially you.
Nora.
