The Fragmentation of AI Adoption

There is such a scattergun reaction to the capabilities of AI and what it can genuinely do for us. All I have to do is scroll through LinkedIn... On the one hand, you have people actually building tools and creating software with it, developers using it to speed up writing code, and identifying genuine problems & challenges where it can be useful such as scientific and medical research. Then you have people burning through credits saying I got Claude to make GTA V in a browser! or I made a compu...

The Nuance Of AI Detection

Back in April 2024, I wrote a piece entitled [Artificial] Intelligence, which looked at the less than delicate diversity overcorrection of AI generative outputs from the likes of Google's Gemini. Now in 2026, despite the release of the EU's AI Labelling system we are still seeing a different kind of sensitivity issue. This time it's a lack of one, from various third party AI detection tools. You see, whilst digital infrastructure is very much binary, the level of application a user / designer / ...

DUSK GPT is becoming a Plugin

What happened to If it ain't broke, don't fix it? From December 11th, custom GPT agents are being retired. OpenAI says custom GPTs are being retired because it wants creators to move those workflows into Plugins, which can combine reusable instructions, reference material, connected apps/tools, and more structured capabilities in one package.

Presenting DUSK to AI Peers

I had the opportunity to present my little journey with DUSK and where I am now at the CR3W meetup last week to a room of AI builders, software developers and people with ideas like myself, and I was more apprehensive than when I've shown it to anyone else! Would they see right through me as a non-coder? Would they mock the UI? Would they question the route id taken? Would they take it seriously? In reality, it went really well. People offered helpful feedback, asked questions that lead to more ...

The Orange Scribble Problem

I’ve been rebuilding DUSK as a local-first application. DUSK is my attempt to make a practical lighting visualisation tool using generative AI. You upload an image, select an area and describe a lighting treatment: uplight the columns, wash the ceiling, turn the scene into night, add concealed light beneath a bench. The original version relied heavily on Google Gemini. That was useful for getting a prototype working quickly, especially as I am a lighting designer who has somehow wandered into so...

Journaling in the age of Articlemaxxing

Or How I miss the innocent days of Livejournal.. When did writing online become driven by farming success course-slop? Why does everyone want to help me grow, so long as I sign up to an online program or join a paid membership tier? Why does Substack's notes feed look and read with exactly the same level of engagement farming as Crypto Twitter did during the NFT and meme coin heydays?
