🥅 Week 268 - Goals
I waved off my wife this weekend as she tackled the Commando Series 6K race in Kent. Before leaving, she cursed her previous willingness to sign up, but she completed the course and her team all seemed to enjoy trekking through rivers and mud. No, I will not be joining them next

#oneaday Day 825: Today is quiet
It's been a quiet day today, as we intended. Andie has been feeling a bit under the weather, so she has been taking it easy (she is napping as I type this), but I decided I'd go out and have a swim by myself earlier. It was a good time; I continuously swam (very slowly...

Completing the Zwem4daagse
A few hours ago, I completed my first edition of the Zwem4daagse, which is a yearly even here in The Netherlands where you swim a certain distance for four days. After swimming 500 meters four days, I am now a proud owner of a cute little medal!

Swimming, Second Diploma, and Summer
Today I had my last swimming lesson before the summer break. Since I haven't given any update on my swimming since the end of April, this felt like the perfect natural moment to do so. It's been so much fun!

Getting My First Swimming Diploma
My updates about swimming keep aging fast, and that's a good sign. Last month, I mentioned I was finally having lessons at the deep end of the pool, and how it was being a blast. So much happened the past three weeks though!

Swimming On The Deep End
My update about swimming late last month aged very fast. Two weeks after, I got moved up to level 5, which means that all of my lessons are now fully on the deep side of the swimming pool. It's going well and I enjoy it a lot. Once I get the Diploma A, I'll be allowed to go swimming laps at the swimming pool.

Swimming Lessons Check-in
A few weeks ago, I wrote about finally starting swimming lessons. Almost two months in, I thought it'd be nice to write a small check-in on how it's going. If I had summarize the past few weeks, it'd be simple: I'm loving it!

Back Into The Swimming Pool
It feels good to be back in a swimming pool. After a lot of hiccups in the process of starting the swimming lessons, I finally had my first one last week, and yesterday my second one. It's been quite a blast.

I needed a way to track my Endless Pool workouts, so I built one
I mentioned this briefly in my race report about this year's Ironman 70.3 St. George, but for the past few weeks I've been swimming in an Endless Pool, since the Teton County Rec Center's lap pool remains, alas, closed for the foreseeable future. It's been an effective training tool, but one of the annoying things about it is that it's hard to track my workouts---there are no "laps," so all I can do is time-based sets, and even then, I have trouble keeping track in my head of how many sets I've done, at what pace, and for how long. So, I built myself a little tool to do this: I call it SwimSetter, and it's a simple web app to keep track of my sets in the Endless Pool. Using it is easy: Just bring your phone to the pool in a waterproof case, leave it on the side, open the app, set a timer or a stopwatch on your watch, and then just swim. Whenever you stop for a rest, enter how long your last set lasted and at what pace it was, and repeat until you're done with your workout. The app will add up your total time, distance, and average pace, which you can then enter into a workout log or a manual Strava activity or wherever you want. It's a very simple tool that answers a very simple question for me: "Have I swam enough today?" But it might be useful to you too, so here it is.

Fear of Deep Water
Swimming. An activity that can be very relaxing, and, at the same time, straining and very good for your body. Since I was a kid, I’ve always had a complicated relationship with swimming. I enjoy the process of swimming, and I can swim, but as soon as the body of water is deeper than my height, it’s a hard no-go.

Weeknotes 2 July
A busier week than usual: a spa day, a cold, a trip to Scotland, a dip in a reservoir, a walk up Worm Hill.
