🍿 Watched The Sheep Detectives (2026)

⚠️ SPOILER WARNING: No Spoilers My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5 stars) Good watch. Would recommend it. One of the few movies from Amazon Studios I've actually enjoyed. It combined comedy, drama, and mystery in a fun and entertaining way. This...

The Fate of the Furious

Last night we watched the eighth instalment of the FFCU while eating giant plates of nachos. No regrets. I hope Charlize regrets this hair though. It was egregious. Overall these movies are now on a downhill slide for me, with #5 being the peak. I think it’s because in #5 everyone was super competent, and in […]

#oneaday Day 854: Resident. EEEVIL. FILM!

Today on my holidays, I rode the bus and I went to the cinema and I saw Resident Evil. It was nice and it was fun. I enjoyed the popcorn and the weird drink I had never heard of but which was quite nice. Switching off the "seven year old writing about their holidays" mode,...

I need a literary chaser.

I finished the Errol Flynn biography I was reading. It’s an excellently researched book, but damn. As I wrote on Goodreads: An excellent biography that confirmed to me that Flynn was Not a Nice Man. Like, I was expecting him to be a raconteur, a playboy, maybe someone a bit naughty. “In like Flynn!” chortle […]

🍿 Watched Blitz (2024) on Prime Video

⚠️ SPOILER WARNING: FULL SPOILERS My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐½ (3.5/5 stars) Final Verdict Not bad, but a heavy watch. After seeing all the kid went through in this movie, you almost wanted to reach out to him through the TV and say, “Let’s get you...

In the Wake of the Bounty

I’ve been reading a biography of Errol Flynn that I picked up at the recent NSW History Awards, and last night Rodd suggested we watch his first ever movie. It’s called In the Wake of the Bounty, and he’d noticed that it had been added to Brollie recently. It’s a weird movie. It was made by […]

We are past the halfway point in our jaunt through the FFCU! Last night was Furious 7, which sadly didn’t open with any of the fist-pumping stunts that the previous films were known for. (I guess I miss Justin Lin as a director?!) I gasped when I saw Kurt Russell’s name in the credits though, […]

‘Independent CNN Oversight Board’ To Be Hand Picked By Paramount

Earlier this week we noted how California Democrats fecklessly folded to Paramount's demands and settled the 12-state antitrust lawsuit against Paramount's $111 billion merger with Warner Bros. We also noted how the conditions affixed to the deal are largely pathetic, and generally consist of a lot of performative fluff Paramount itself recommended and California AG...

Fast & Furious 6

Last night we watched Fast & Furious 6, which was entertaining but felt a bit dumber than the previous film. Everyone lost 50 competence points between movies, it seems. Instead of a clear genre, it just felt like a big generic action movie. It also centers on Letty, a character that I did not particularly warm […]

Not content to eff up Roald Dahl books, it seems Netflix’s approach to C.S. Lewis will be less than faithful too. Do I trust Greta Gerwig enough to still pay to see this? It was one of my favourite books. (Why does Jadis look like an alien go-go dancer?!)

Last night we continued our immersion in the FFCU with the fifth movie, the appropriately named Fast Five. This one jumped genres again, with this one a classic Ocean’s Eleven style heist. It’s got a “putting the team back together” montage (including several fan favourites from the first four movies); loads of competency porn; stunning action sequences […]

🍿 Watched The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026) on Disney+

⚠️ **SPOILER WARNING:** FULL SPOILERS **My Rating:** ⭐⭐⭐⭐½ (4.5/5 stars)** Overall, I liked it a lot. I think Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau do the Star Wars Universe justice. My favorite moments were probably the little guys and Grogu. I...

the raygun documentary keeps waiting for the joke to introduce itself

about twenty minutes into Untold: Raygun — Breaking Badly, i posted that the documentary was teetering on the edge between documentary and mockumentary despite being 1000% earnest. this is still the most accurate review i can offer. the movie is…
