PD’s New Policy For Flock Cameras Just Shows How Little It Was Doing Before The Blowback Hit
Flock is being tossed aside by tons of cities and the trend doesn't seem to be slowing down. Sure, these cities may ultimately decide to go with another ALPR provider, but hopefully it will be one that's a bit more serious about preventing abuse. Recent changes by Flock, in response to months of sustained negative...

Driver Ticketed For No Insurance Despite Having Insurance Just Because Flock Said She Didn’t
We've moved past cops doing stuff because a dog gave them permission to do it. Now, we're at the post-truth era of policing, where cops will do stuff because a machine told them to do it. We already know ALPRs (automated license plate readers) generate false positives. And we know that these false positives can...

Cop Shops Keep On Dropping Flock Like It’s Hot
You have to know you're fucking up when your largest and best-paying customer base is increasingly noping out of contract renewals. That more than anything is probably what provoked ALPR maker Flock Safety to start implementing a few guardrails for use. It seemingly had no problem with being the target of negative press for most...

Flock Claims It’s The First Company To Expose Police Misuse Of Surveillance Tech
Flock Safety is hurting. It spent the early part of its career pitching plate reader tech to people who honestly didn't need it: HOA supervisors and gated communities. Then it realized there was far more money to be made by courting governments, rather than the richest parts of the private sector. A few years later...

Flock Once Tried To Turn Every Ride Share Driver Into Part Of Its ALPR Network
Until just recently, Flock never felt it needed to rehabilitate its image, even when several cities were dumping contracts and cameras over persistent surveillance concerns. When cities shut down systems, Flock just kept running. In some cases, it even installed cameras that without proper permits or any other legal authorization. What's hurting Flock now is...

Flock Safety Decides To Implement A Few Changes After Months Of Negative Press
Flock Safety has spent a few years building a massive network of ALPR (automated license plate reader) cameras. Flock's cameras are a step ahead of competitors. They not only grab plate/location info, but they provide searchable tags/images that cover everything from car make/model to specific vehicle features. These photos also include images of the drivers...

Flock (Again!) Activates A Camera System A Town Had Voted To Shut Down
The easiest way to tell that Flock Safety doesn't really care that its massive network of ALPR (automatic license plate reader) cameras is being abused by cops to stalk their exes and harass residents is to judge it by its actions. When confronted with court case after court case detailing these allegations (and those are...

It’s Official: Flock Is For Stalking
Flock Safety is happy it's the go-to choice for tons of law enforcement agencies. While it does suffer some occasional bleeding, its supercharged automatic license plate readers (ALPRs) -- ones that not only capture plates, but pictures of drivers/passengers and full vehicle images to capture any other distinctive features -- are so widely deployed they're...

Expansion Of Flock Camera Systems Is Leading To Even More False Positives
Flock Safety's aggressive expansion into the law enforcement market has been coupled with nearly constant negative coverage of its tech and its practices. Multiple cities have paused or cancelled their agreements with Flock following public outcry over the surveillance tech. Flock's willingness to allow law enforcement agencies to search a nationwide network of cameras has...
