US government’s Africa map blunder fuels accusations of racial bias, colonial arrogance and enduring Western attitudes towards Africa
The United States government misplaced every African country on a map shown during a major international conference in Brazil. The blunder has reignited accusations of racial bias, colonial arrogance and enduring Western attitudes towards Africa. The map was displayed during a presentation by the US State Department at the AIDS 2026 conference in Rio de...

What We Lose with Cultural Extinction: The Red Thread Cut
In 1995, China abducted six-year-old Gedhun Choekyi Nyima—the recognized 11th Panchen Lama—severing the chain of mutual recognition at the heart of Tibetan Buddhist succession. Meanwhile, Michif, a language born from Cree verbs and French nouns that belonged to no one but the Métis People, has nearly vanished within living memory. Both losses are the same act: colonialism's weaponization of continuity. On the extinction of languages, the cutting of red threads, and what it means to inherit a chain with links already missing.

Rage Against the Machine: Toward Humane Systems of Mutual Aid
Humanitarian aid is sold as neutral and benevolent. On the ground, it is an outpost of empire. It registers, sorts, and disciplines the people it claims to save, and leaves untouched what wrecked them. In Palestine, it normalises occupation and freezes life in permanent limbo. In Sudan, it retreated and left devastation behind. In Congo, it manages displacement while extraction rolls on. States have even captured zakat and turned it into prestige and bureaucracy. Still, communities feed each other. Palestinian crowdfunding, Sudan's Emergency Response Rooms, and Team Congo RDC bypass the gatekeepers and put resources in people's hands, with no donor hierarchy. Share this work, and strengthen the mutual aid ecosystem.
