There is no AI in Failure
File this under: you can't make this stuff up (but your generative AI can). I am prepping for a panel I am moderating next week in NYC (Pints, Prompts, and Page Builders), on the challenges (and successes) of using AI in support of content workflows. I remembered vaguely there was a Tumblr about mistakes made...

two weeks, all Rust, no Python
we stopped shipping solstone entirely for two weeks to move the journal's core off Python. it's done. the journal's tree went from 692,090 lines of Python and 61,814 of Rust to 25,980 and 678,905, with no Python left under the product tree at all.

eleven releases, then we stopped
our product update, every two weeks: we shipped harder than we ever have, then froze every solstone surface to finish moving the journal's core to Rust. what that means if you run it today, and what comes back when it lands.

on your side, all the way down
you'll never see most of what we do to keep your journal yours. so here it is, one layer at a time — the work of making sure nothing about you ever leaks out to anyone, and how you can check that we mean it.

Twitter, Transclusion and Trust
The new Twitter is here! The new Twitter is here! Besides sowing discontent in our household by giving me access to the new user interface before my wife’s account has been upgraded, the big new feature of the update to venerable old Twitter.com is a sidebar that lets you view media that’s been…

You can only skip the formalities if you've already been introduced.
I was writing earlier about the smart presentation of information in the excerpt from Steven Johnson’s Everything Bad Is Good For You that was published last weekend in the New York Times Magazine. Once you get past the cool factor of good info-design, though, you come back to the same issues of…

Google Leverages Its Trust
David says that Google’s angle on snapping up library content is to prevent banner farmers from scanning it all in and wrapping AdSense around it. That may be, but I can’t help but think this is also a defensive move, based on leveraging one of the assets they have against Microsoft in the search…

Based on his Release 1.0 article, Kevin Werbach says, "[T]he boundaries between committed amateurs and working journalists may be difficult to determine" Walt Mossberg made the same point to me recently, among other points, in his recent email. I’m glad that the boundaries to the field are being…

There is just some unremovable
There is just some unremovable sheen of scumbag that clings to Larry Ellison. Stop me if I’ve said this before, but I find it strange that people in this industry demonize Bill Gates when someone like Ellison is still roaming the earth. I wouldn’t leave Ellison alone in a room with my (nonexistent)…
