The Pirate Costume, pt 2
Sep 14, 2026
I only had so much linen fabric so I decided to experiment with dyeing it to make it distinctive from the rest of the costume. The brown-striped linen was the most dramatic, but it's also lost most of the stripe unless you've got your nose pressed to the fabric. The bag also turned out more faded denim than I expected, but... I wasn't looking for too rich of color, so it worked. They were made up into two different bags.

The Plan
Sep 12, 2026
I completed this several years ago, when I was much earlier on in my cross-stitching journey. I would modify more now (like add an outline to the cricket bat so that it matches the gun more), but I really like the typography. Pattern: Shaun of the Dead Plan by SnarkyStitchBitch

A tea party fit for the Haunted Mansion

This was another pattern from the Spellbound Stitches book, where I got to use Cosmo floss for the first time. Pattern: Ghostly Tea Party by StitchSprout, but it doesn't seem to be available on their store

Simple Spells
Sep 7, 2026
I got this pattern initially in a Spellbound Stitches pack. It came with 6 patterns and the Cosmo floss needed for them. Cosmo floss is another brand, like DMC or Anchor, and it comes from Japan. Texture of threads always vary across color, but overall Cosmo felt nicer. Silkier. But it's harder to find. I have to special order it from 123Stitch. Considering all of the inherited floss I have, I can't really justify it most of the time, but it's so nice to have some to play with. Pattern: Simple S...

It's so fluffy!
Sep 3, 2026
This chunky unicorn is a gift for my youngest niece. Pattern: Lil Fluffy Unicorn by Little Yarn Friends I mostly followed the pattern, but I didn't want to use felt or pieces of fabric or beads, so everything was replaced by some kind of crochet or yarn embroidery.

Pattern: Heart Eyes Cat by Tofu I have an orange cat that this pattern reminded me of. Sam would like all of the toys. Thank you.

The Pirate Costume, pt 1
Aug 9, 2026
I've been going to the Bristol Ren Faire for about two decades now. Every summer, I end up going multiple weekends with different parties. For many reasons, it took me this long to come up with a costume. I went through a pirate phase as a kid and Our Flag Means Death kicked off another pirate phase a couple years ago. While I would kill to dress up as Izzy, I would melt away in midwestern summer heat while wearing black leather. This pirate costume has me in cottons and linens exclusively. Patt...

Too Cute for Capitalism
Aug 6, 2026
Pattern: Too Cute for Capitalism by samanthalanetextiles My favorite kinds of patterns are bold, modern, and not full-coverage. They are less likely to have me despairing over perceived lack of progress. And because this was another one done in the wake of getting laid off, we needed more joy.

Mini-Classics
Aug 4, 2026
Patterns: I have collected cross stitch patterns through so many years that I don't remember where I got every pattern. I wish I did, though, because the Unicorn and the Wanderer patterns are beautiful. I really like the mini paintings. They're satisfying to complete. The confetti on some of the patterns is really evident in the backs though.

The Real Shareholder Value
Aug 1, 2026
Pattern: Real Shareholder Value by Screaming Heart Design This was the first pattern I picked up after getting laid off in February 2026. The heartshake icon will follow me wherever I go, it seems.
