Separate nude areas with hot tubs are rare on cruise ships. AIDA has recently scaled back this facility on several of its ships.

Nudist areas on cruise ships are considered much more relaxed and allow holidaymakers to achieve a streak-free tan. However, anyone looking for designated decks for nude sunbathing on German cruises is often disappointed: The ‘Mein Schiff’ fleet no longer has sun decks for nudists, whilst AIDA Cruises is significantly reducing the size of these areas across its entire ‘Sphinx’ class. Some ships, however, still offer a nudist area with privacy screens, its own shower and a hot tub.
Nudism on MSC, Costa and ‘Mein Schiff’: these cruises prohibit nude sunbathing
The abbreviation FKK stands for ‘Freikörperkultur’ (free-body culture) and refers to communal nudity without any sexual connotations. Europe is regarded as the centre for naturist holidays: one of the best-known destinations is Cap d’Agde in the south of France. There are also several naturist resorts on the North Sea and Baltic Sea coasts.
On cruise ships, however, this practice is rather unpopular. Most major cruise lines, such as MSC Cruises and Costa Cruises, do not have nudist areas; the German cruise line TUI Cruises abolished them on its ‘Mein Schiff’ fleet a few years ago. Although AIDA offers nudist sun decks on all its ships, these are increasingly subject to restrictions…
(SPOILER: The “AIDAprima” and “AIDAperla” continue to offer spacious nudist areas.)
