Fire that broke out at Poconos nudist resort started in mobile home furnace, chief says

late night fire at a clothing-optional resort and campground near Palmerton destroyed two mobile homes and a car.

Franklin Township Fire Chief Lynn Diehl said the fire at Sunny Rest Resort was reported shortly after 11 p.m., with callers saying several structures were involved. The resort is located on East Hill Road in a remote part of Franklin Township, bordering multiple jurisdictions, the chief noted, prompting several fire departments to respond.

Firefighters fought the blaze for nearly three hours, Diehl said, and were hampered by live electrical wires that had to be shut off by PPL for firefighter safety.

“The fire was believed to have started from a furnace in one of the mobile homes and is determined to be accidental. There were no reported injuries,” Diehl said.
