Weeknotes 26:39
I made good progress last week on several projects that will launch at the end of the week. I tried out Memento Mori as a way to say a stand alone archive of my Instagram photos.
Around the workshop
hese are the main projects that I am focused on these days:
- Wonder of the Word templates – I finished up work on the two templates that needed to be done for the October 1 launch of these pages. I have been working with our backend developer to refine some dynamic pieces. I started addressing some issues that came up in the design and content reviews. I am planning that there will be some more updates this coming week before the project goes live on Thursday.
- Study through the Bible email template – I finished up work on this template and processed images for the 7 different languages for the first season of this project. The next step in this project is for our backend developer to import content from our international teams so that we can create sample emails. I need to review the sample emails to make sure all the conditional coding is working as expected and clean up anything else I didn’t account for. After that, our international teams will review the samples and I will make updates as needed.
- Updating logo and colors on Revive Our Hearts sites – The work for this project is all done. Just waiting for October 2 to see it launch on all the different Revive Our Hearts sites.
I am excited to see the Wonder of the Word project come together. We had an internal alignment meeting on Wednesday and everyone felt pretty good about the launch coming up and excited to see the fruits of several months of planning and discussing.
Archiving Instagram
Joe Crawford had mentioned using Memento Mori in a project he was working on for a friend. Memento Mori is a tool that converts your Instagram data export into a beautiful, standalone viewer that resembles the Instagram interface. I had been thinking about adding Instagram photos to my personal site through WordPress. I had been thinking about doing it manually because I was not aware of a tool that could do it for me.
After reading about Joe using Memento Mori, I was interested in this static file solution. Last week, I cloned the repo, requested a copy of my Instagram data archive and then ran the tool according to the instructions. It took less than five minutes to build a standalone HTML, CSS, and JavaScript viewer that included all my Instagram posts. I played around with it a bit over the weekend to tweak it and make it my own. I made the page wider, cut down the grid gaps and redid the top portion of the page.
I have not decided yet whether to add it to this site or add it to my Memory Keeper site. The second one seems more appropriate because it is mostly for me and would be password protected. I have a private account with Instagram so that course seems the better choice. I don’t necessarily care that others see my photos.
What I wrote
- Sagrada Família LEGO set (I would love to build) – I wrote about how I would love to build the Sagrada Família LEGO set. I saw several videos in my social feeds about people building the model. I visited Sagrada Família in 2024 and would love to build it.

“Thanks, Preethi, for sharing your thoughts. It is really good (and timely) to get your perspective as one who relies on dark mode to be able to interact with the Web. This is helpful to me as I have been wondering how to do light and dark modes better to serve the needs of the people using the websites I work on. My daughter, who suffers from migraines, gave me some similar things to think about with dark mode. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts and I hope others will also share their experiences so we can all learn and do a better job serving our audiences.”
