edia and film professionals will have to wait a little longer for their moment at the Maso Awards after organisers dropped the fields from this year’s edition.
The Maso Awards have dropped media and film categories from this year’s edition, with organisers saying the fields will get dedicated awards next year.
Fashion and photography have also been removed from this year’s categories because the organisers say the fields are broad and require specialised awards.
Maso Awards executive director August Mukisi told Malawi24 that the decision is aimed at creating dedicated categories for the four fields.
“We have removed those categories so that we can create special categories for them,” Mukisi said.
Mukisi said nominations for this year’s awards will open today, September 28, through a portal where members of the public can submit their nominations.
The nomination phase will run until October 23 and will form the first phase of the voting process.
The second voting phase will run from November 7 to December 4, when the public will vote for artists who make it onto the final nomination list.
Mukisi said preparations are at an advanced stage, with the awards ceremony scheduled for December 12 in Blantyre.
