Disco in Ghoulhaven?! – Music Monday – October 12, 2026

Many people are always surprised when they hear that I didn’t have a GameCube growing up. Mr. Banjo-Kazooie and Mr. Nintendo 64 didn’t play the GameCube? Well, I did play the GameCube but only at my friend’s house. Instead, I had an original Xbox, and one of my first games? Grabbed by the Ghoulies. It had on the cover that it was made by the creators of Banjo-Kazooie, so you know I was hooked from the start!

Ghoulies has a Scooby-Doo-esque vibe to it. It’s goofy and I fell in love with the game. I actually even now try to play it through every couple of years just to relive all of it again and again. One of my favorite bits in the game actually is in Chapter 1 and the subject of this week’s Music Monday. In the Embassy Ballroom, you walk in on a bunch of the zombies and skeletons dancing on this gigantic dance floor and a mummy DJ spinning records off the gramophone. The party vibe is high here.

The game itself does lend itself to the Halloween vibe as it has the classic monsters like zombies, skeletons, mummies, and more, but seeing them dancing and just having a good time is just so fun to see. I really try to sneak on through and not disturb them (or find a place on the dance floor where they won’t hit me (except on that one Challenge where you have to hit them without getting hit)

Ballroom Disco is a track that I would consider an under-rated classic. Did you know Ghoulies was also composed by Grant Kirkhope?! Ghoulies as a game also has a very catchy theme and this theme is rocked on during this track. The organ playing this really great bridge part and the guitars grinding out a real beat just makes me want to disco out!
