Messaging sites i'm on
his page exists to catch as many people I have contact w/over Discord as I can (and stay in touch with new mutuals, I guess), for when they push the global age-verification updates and everyone starts migrating.
Page is subject to updates, will likely be deleted once things are more established.
Will be ignoring;
- People I don't recognize off other socials
- Commission requests (They're closed)
- "I accidentally reported you" (scam. fell for this last year, not again)
- Self-promotion (also usually a scam)
Currently up
- Signal (preferred for one-on-one chats) - hell_jpeg.573
- Chat email (I'm bad at checking emails, but I'll try my best!) - jadeeverstone (at) proton (dot) me
- Group chat apps (least preferred at this moment, may take a while to respond to friend requests)
- Matrix - @helljpeg:matrix.org
- Fluxer - helljpeg#2524
- Teamspeak - helljpeg (at) myteamspeak (dot) com
- Telegram (wary of this one, but it's popular in furry circles) - @jadeeverstone
Unsure
- Self hosted / decentralized services (matrix, IRC, XMPP) - These are a very hard sell to less tech-savvy peers + self-hosting a server is not something I have the means to do right now. Maybe I'll username squat on a few homeservers, but I don't see any of these taking off
Currently Not Considering
- Meta (whatsapp, FB messanger) - Considering I'm moving out of privacy concerns & I ditched Instagram because of bigotry this is a no
- Stoat - Have, but it's blocked by my cell service apparently 🤦
Other
- Regarding Discord: I'm keeping it for now for a few contacts, but I'm phasing it out & will direct new friends to my other pages. Discord will also not be used for commissions
- People I know IRL can ask for my phone number
- For general keeping up with me, I have my currently active socials on my website. I wouldn't rely on these for contacts, so use these as general 'what is Nat doing' spots: https://jadeeverstone.com/links/
- My website is also follow-able via RSS, and will be the place I plan on keeping up to the best of my ability: https://jadeeverstone.com/feed.xml
I'm honestly devastated, mainly because of the IRL-related communities & contacts that'll be lost and the continued destruction of online privacy (Adults like me shouldn't have to compromise our privacy because fascists want to siphon more data from us can't be assed to watch their kids)
Discord is a massive target for data breaches and scams. If I gave my ID to them to stay in contact with some of my friends, then that means in the inevitable data breach I could not just get doxxed, but have IRL spaces I'm a part of exposed too. In an age where people don't respect creators boundaries & anti-queer, racist, or otherwise bigoted sentiment is on the rise this is not a risk I want to take. (There's a massive wave of phishing scams right now & I imagine it's because internet ID laws / compliance has turned many services into goldmines for hackers)
Ultimately migrating won't be as effective as stopping/repealing the bills that's causing changes like this in the first place, but I'd rather scatter and see who will have a backbone in this current political climate.
