Danny Green has released albums in trio format, strings and various small group combos. This album is the next logical step, as he goes solo on an album of originals and standards, both ways showing his strengths. His own “Blue Musings” reflects his inner saloon man, resonant and relaxed, while “Gray Day In May” oozes of elegance, and his right hand stretches the limits on the stroll of “Walk At Dusk”.
The covers are as cleverly chosen as delivered. I mean, who else does a solo take of The Beatles’ “A Day In The Life” and includes the resonant thud of the last chord?!? Meanwhile, “All The Things You Are” has Green’s left and right hands in conversation, and Stevie Wonder’s “I Wish” is an absolute hoot, with Green’s left hand tapping into his inner Nathan Watts bass line. This guy WORKS!
