After showing how his working band can  perform through his last album, a live one, alto saxist Miguel Zenon shows two more sides of his creative skills on a pair of new releases.

Miguel Zenon duos up with longtime piano partner Luis Perdomo on a rich and intimated collection of romantic boleros. The two tap into their Latin lover modes, going lovely and romantic on pieces like “La Gloria Eres Tu” with Perdomo’s left doing the table dance on “Sombras” and going Debussy-impressionist on “El Dia Que Me Quieras”. Zenon’s vibrato is glorious throughout, glowing on the reflective “Un Amor De La Calle” and delicate on the delightful “De Que Callada Manera”. A night on the town.

Zenon then teams up with the Barcelona Art Orchestra for a four part “Expressions”, recorded “live” in Barcelona back in 2025. The opening “Silenci” changes gears a number of times, filled with loose and rich ideas, while the team gets funky around the trombones on “Canta/Parla”. The sections jab and jolt on the edgy “Ziuxiueit/Esgalai” and swoop and sway to “Lament/Crit” with Zenon getting  plenty of room for stretching out. A taxi veering through the heavy traffic.
